Hiring employees in your coffee shop may seem like a daunting task. Finding the right people to trust with your shop is vital. We compiled a list of great questions to ask when hiring employees in your coffee shop.
5 Questions to Ask When Hiring Employees in Your Coffee Shop
1. Have you worked in the food-service industry before?
People who have previously worked in the food industry will already have experience with sanitizing procedures, point of sale systems, and customer service. Their training may be different than someone who hasn't worked in the food-service industry.
2. How have you dealt with angry or dissatisfied customers in the past?
A major part of working a service job is dealing with angry customers. You can gauge how comfortable they are with dissatisfied customers. This will help you understand their customer service abilities.
3. How do you manage stress?
Do they shut down when there are too many tasks? Can they process what's going on with a lot of noise and commotion? You'll need to understand if they can handle the stress of working in a busy coffee shop.
4. How do you stay focused while performing repetitive tasks?
Can they stay engaged for a full eight hours doing the same things repeatedly? That's a lot of what working in the food/service industry is: repetition. If they can't fathom doing the same three or four things for a full shift, they may have trouble working in your coffee shop.
5. What's your favorite kind of coffee?
This is a fun question to end with. You can learn a little bit about their personality and what they know about coffee. This will put them at ease too.
