How to Make Cold Foam for Your Coffee Shop?
Cold foam has become a staple of Starbucks's cold brew drinks. Customers love it! It's not a traditional coffee accessory, but it's one worth bringing to your coffee shop. Here's how to make foam for coffee:
Making Cold Foam for Coffee
- 1/4 cup fat-free milk (see note)
- 2 pumps flavoring or sweetener (optional)
- 16 oz clear plastic cup
- Strawless sip lid
How to Make Coffee Foam:
1. Gently Stir it
Gently stir together your milk and flavoring. You can skip this step if you're not using any flavoring or sweetener.
2. Froth it
Froth your milk mixture with a frothing wand, blender, or milk frother. Mix it long enough for soft peaks to form. Make sure your milk is very cold and your frother is in a cold setting. This usually takes about two minutes.
3. Enjoy!
You can enjoy your cold foam with cold brew coffee, iced coffee, or even an iced mocha.
How to Make Cold Foam for Coffee - A NOTE ABOUT FAT-FREE MILK:
Traditional whipped cream is made with full-fat whipping cream. The way whipped cream stiffens is the fat molecules start to break down. This allows the bubbles to be trapped, making a stiffer end result. Cold foam is made with fat-free milk because of the different ratio of protein to fat. The concentration of protein allows for micro-bubbles to form. This gives the cold foam a more silky, smooth texture.
A NOTE ABOUT STRAWLESS SIP LIDS:
Usually, cold coffee drinks are drunk from clear plastic cups with either flat or dome lids. These lids require a straw. Straws work with most cold drinks because there aren't layers with different flavors. Sipping a drink allows the various layers to come together when you drink it. Our cold strawless sip lids allow your customers to have their coffee and cold foam at the same time. This is the best way to drink with cold foam.
